Snowing again (or still …..can’t remember if it ever stopped….)

April 4, 2009 by

Saturday morning – I guess i really never have to try to figure out what to do here on Saturday morning – just get up like a robot, get dressed, and go start the snowblower. Seems like we have been getting alot of it since January. Will look back and be thankful in August for all of the snowpack I imagine. BUT – right now it could stop anytime.

The past week had some highlights: The Big B worked a 40 hour, 8 to 5, week at the Bank (well the schedule altered a little during his orientation Monday & Tuesday). That kid cleans up really nice and he seems to really like what he is doing. Good for B. He has been trying to learn how to sleep at night like the rest of us LOL. Sleeping nights and working days is a new concept for him I think.

Wendy has been battling some kind of a stomach virus or something. Word out of Fort Collins is she is feeling better now. Still waiting on a test result I think but it all sounds positive. We love you Wendy – we will keep on praying for a full return to good health.

Stephanie had a day or two off early last week also to nurse a sick kid. Stephen had a bad case of something and was out for a day or two. I’m guessing he has made a full recovery because he is off to Green River this weekend to collect some more martial arts bling! He brought by all of the trophies and medals he won last weekend at Worland – really kicked some hiney up there!

Vic & Sophie still snuggled in bed this morning. I’d sneak in and take a picture and post it here but I’ve been married a long time and I dont want to jeopardize it! LOL

We’re having a fun time at work – cut our budgets by 10% this past week at the direction of the Governor. Just a recommendation at this point but you can bet he is gonna do it. I think the next year will be a rough one in State Government and in our group. Kind of a doomsday mentality swirling around about the economy locally, nationally, and internationally. I would say if “attitude” counts, and i think it is a major factor in the economy, then we are in for some dark days nationwide. I understand reality but I also know that the power of the positive is significant. One local developer that I do some projects with laid out a quote a couple of weeks ago that I loved. He was asked if he was still interested in looking at a piece of property down by Glenrock for potential development and his answer was “Absolutely – we took a vote at our shop and voted not to participate in the Recession”. Gotta love working around folks like that. Doesnt hurt that he has been very successful and can take advantage of some opportunities as they come up – BUT – you don’t penalize him and take from him because he has succeeded IF you want to see anything else happen. Anyway – my kind of person. It’s great to be in a Red Red State! Just hope we can stay Red mentally!

Vic is up now so guess you can belay my previous paragraph. No chance to take a pic now anyway.

Time to get dressed and start the snowblower.

Just rambling…

February 17, 2009 by

Here we are, another cold day in Kansas City.  I think it is a whopping 7 degrees outside right now.  At least it is clear and sunny, that’s the silver lining there.  Now that we have officially had 3 weeks of winter, I am ready for spring.  No more cold morning or windy afternoons. No more snow and ice, just warm sunshine please.  I guess I’d have to move somewhere other than the midwest for warm sunshine in January…maybe someday.  Till then I’ll deal with the weather here.
Braelyn turned one last Friday.  I can’t believe my precious little princess is 1, it seems like yesterday (I know that is overally used but, its true) that she came into this world and we were bringing her home from the hospital.  I’m enjoying every minute with her, because they grow up way too fast.  Spencer will be 16 this year, and I swear I don’t know where the time has gone.
We have another busy weekend ahead of us.  Ryan is having a poker and UFC Fight party at the house on Saturday night.  I’m going out with the girls to celebrate Stephanie’s birthday.  Sunday is Cayse’s birthday party.  Today he turns 6 – Happy Birthday Cayse!
Will we ever have a weekend where we get do nothing and just enjoy being at home…I hope so!  I don’t think we have any plans the next weekend!
Well enough rambling…I really didn’t have much to say!

Early Morning Ramblings

January 16, 2009 by

Well, I have been awake going on the better part of an hour. That is unusal for me… I tend to sleep until 7:30 or 8:00 am most days. But, my entire house has been sick, with the exception of me and . This morning I am awake because my wife is having a cough-a-thon. Jerry Lewis doesn’t raise as much money for the MDA in his teleathon as my wife has coughed last night. Hope she gets over it, soon! I know I’ve gone through spells where I have coughed for weeks. Spencer has been home from school the last two days… I am pretty sure he’s not just skipping tests or homework… poor kid has looked like hell. And , well, fortunately she seems to be better.

Speaking of , she had her year-old shots and check-up yesterday. I am a bad father because I don’t remember her height and weight even though Rebecca told me. I do know she is only 30th percentile in weight (even though she’s fully-loaded from being constipated the past few days) and 50th percentile in height. I’m surprised on the weight thing…. she seems to be the “right” size to me. I am not one who wants a chubby baby! I pretty much think she’s perfect, shy the high pitch squealy noise she has been making. That is, well, not so perfect!

should be losing weight… we cut his feeding size back a bit, and in the past two weeks he’s been to the dog park (for a walk, right by my side) and on a walk or two. We’re trying to break him from being such an OCD dog. He walks unusual patterns to go outside (has for a long time) but it’s been getting worse. Though it’s been getting better the past week or so, he was having a tendancy not to come in the back door even though there is no ice. He was making us take him in through the side door, at which time he would eat. We were complying with this since he was also avoiding walking through the house into the laundry room, where his food bowl is. That probably helped his weight loss, too, until we figured out he would eat when we take him around the side of the house. Crazy dog. Fortunately, he is now again willing to go to the laundry room through the house, and he is coming in the back door again. Well, after a pattern… have to open the door once, close it, wait for him to bark again, then open it up again, stand on the patio steps holding the door and say “You may enter, your heiness”. Then he comes in. Oh, what a nutty dog. Shawn Hashmi is thinking about bringing Parker (who doesn’t slow down for anything) over tomorrow if it’s nice and let Parker run around our backyard with . We’re hoping that will get used to playing and running with Parker, so that next time we go to the dog park will actually run and play… something he hasn’t done since he witnessed a huge dog fight a year ago. Even though he wasn’t involved in the fight, it freaked him a bit and now he likes to stay right by my side at the dog park. He will run if I run (which isn’t much, I might add) or if Spencer is there to run around with. Oh, yes… my 180+ pound Mastiff is a wuss sometimes. Did I mention the dog can fart with the best of them?!?

Hosting a poker and UFC fight watch party over here tomorrow night beginning at 7 or so. Should be a good time. We’re expecting a decent turnout, which means anywhere from 10 to 30 people! You just never know who all will show up. Rebecca will be out celebrating her and Stephanie Murphy’s 35the with their girl friends. I’m sure they will have a great time.

Countdown: only 4 days left till all our country’s woes are resolved! Our new savior is coming everyone; hold tight!

While not a fan of the Broncos firing Shanahan, I am pretty excited about the younggun they brought in to coach. Josh McDaniels from the Patriots. He is young (32 years old) but should bring an exciting brand of football to Denver. Hope he fares better than the other former coordinators from the Patriots who have fell flat on their face when they took over their own teams. Pretty impressed, also, that the Chiefs got some balls and ousted their General Manager after 20 years of mostly mediocre football. They, too, raided the Patriot’s closet and got the hottest name on the market for the GM… Scott Pioli. We’ll see if he has a brain outside the Patriots organization, too. First check will be whether he fires Herm the Germ as the Chiefs coach. If he does, it may prove to be a good hire for the Chiefs. If he doesn’t, well, as a Broncos fan I will be excited since they will have a much better chance of beating the Chiefs with Herm at the helm. Whatever happens, the AFC West is sure going to be a lot different next year. Thankfully the Chargers have opted to keep their moronic coach Norv Turner. While they have managed to win the division 3 years in a row (despite Norv), the last 2 years are solely thankful to the Broncos late season collapses. But they haven’t done crap in the playoffs as Turner sucks. I say let them keep Norv forever, let the Chiefs hang on to Herm and really, who cares what the Raiders do… they will remain the doormat of the West as long as Al Davis keeps kickin (which can’t be much longer).

Ok, that’s enough rambling for now. Killed twenty minutes of my sleepless morning. Great to know it’s Friday and the weekend is upon us. Gonna be another cold day here in KC, but then I think we get a warm(er) spell for a bit. Thinking positive (like I always do!), spring is just around the corner! For years and years I have turned my sprinkler system back on in late March, which is only two months away. And last year, I even had my boat de-winterized before the end of March (only because we had to move it, not because I could use it, but nonetheless, the freezes were over). I am ready for lake season… the OP Boat Show is next week. At least it will be a boat show, unlike the “sports and boat show” last week at Bartle Hall… never have I attended a more worthless event…. it was a Redneck Show, not a boat show.

Five more minutes of my sleepless morning down. That’s all, for real.

Take care and hang on! Obama saves us in just 4 days!

Welcome to 2009

January 1, 2009 by

Well, I survived 2008 and it is now 2009. 2008 was a very interesting year for me. It certainly began with a huge blessing in my life… was born on January 9th. It is hard to believe that in just a week she will be one year old! Rebecca is planning a “Princess Party” for her. Invitations went out a few days ago, though we don’t expect a huge turn out since a lot of the recipients are out of towners. In 2009, it is my hope that will get a younger brother or sister. Rebecca and I would like to have another kid. I would certainly love to have a boy to go with my precious little girl. We’ll see what we can slip past the goalie.

From a work perspective, it was definitely a surprising year. I had no idea until a week before it happened that Gabe was leaving Aplus. He decided to do other stuff with his time. It is the first time in 9 years that I haven’t worked for Gabe. I guess, in 6 months from now, I will have officially lived in the KC area for 10 years. Very hard to believe. I am quite content here, though I often let my mind wander as I think about the places I would love to live. While I want an ocean and sun, the choices for that aren’t really that appealing to me. California is one of the bluest states in the country, and is very expensive to live. Florida… well, it is further from my family, I don’t speak the right languages, and I wouldn’t want to have to board up my house every year hoping the hurricanes don’t take it away. At least here in Kansas, you don’t have a week of prep time and departure every time a tornado is coming! I do know that I could easily live back in Colorado, either in Fort Collins or the Denver area. But with the surprising move of owner Pat Bowlen a few days ago, I don’t know how much longer I will be a Broncos fan! Anyway, I don’t see it in the cards for 2009 to move anywhere, so I guess I should spend my time being more productive instead of thinking about these things. Oh, Eve proved to me that Casper won’t be my domicile… I can not stand the wind there. I do not miss that in the least bit!

Back to work… I am still the Chief Operating Officer at Aplus.net. I love the company and the people there. But we, just like every other business, are getting hit by the economy a bit. We’ll hope that the new savior Obama gets everything on track like he promised… I won’t be holding my breath!

In 2009, I have a few goals, or resolutions, if you will. The first is to be more fiscally responsible. I have been very fortunate in my life to hold good jobs and make great money. But I started spoiling myself (and now my family) a bit too much. Gonna cut it back a bit and start cutting my debt and trying to plan for the future better. I’m going to attempt to quit buying everything I want, when I want it. May even cut back on the travel… well, we’ll see about that. Dave Matthews Band is still touring, and that calls for me to travel! Plus, it’s always great to get away to Maui, New York, etc etc etc. Another of my 2009 resolutions is to get healthier. I don’t think I am going to join a gym again, but eating better and getting some exercise is definitely on the list to do. The vet said needs to lose 10 pounds. Well, so do I. I guess he and I will have to get to the dog park or out on walks a bit more. I have a feeling he will lose his 10 before I do… we have cut him back a bit on his meals. That will save us some money, too!

I also want to keep reconnecting with friends from the past. Every since Angie Noonan died, I have been making much more of an effort to reacquaint myself with past connections. I have been pretty successful at it. Facebook.com went from something I never touched to something I spend time on almost daily. And every week, I find at least another friend from the past. Have to keep reconnecting since my 20th high school reunion comes up in 2010. Wow, I am getting old.

I am thankful that in 2008, my family remained in tact! Didn’t lose anyone, which is always a good thing. digressed with his Alzheimer’s, and that sucks the big one. He seemed pretty good at … he loved kissing on . I pray they come up with something to cure that hideous disease sometime soon. is doing well, but always in pain from her arthritis… she’s in her 90’s. I wish I could see her more… I know she loves spending time with people. If she could have it her way, people would be over there all the time. Dad and Stephanie take care of her and help her out with everything, but I know she’s lonely. Mom, dad, sisters, brother-in-laws, nephews and nieces are all good. Big B hopefully had his last surgery, and it went real well. I am so impressed with his strength… he is an idol/role model of mine for sure.

I was thinking about getting back into coaching baseball this year, but I think as long as I have a boat and enjoy going to the lake so much, that will remain on the back burner. Coaching and officiating basketball are definitely two passions of mine which I haven’t had the time to get back into. Someday I will… someday. I also have been thinking about refreshing my pilot’s license. I think it would be awesome to fly down to the lake a time or two, and also to rent a plane next time I am in Maui and do some aerial sight seeing. Definitely would be fun, but doesn’t play into being more fiscally responsible.

Well, I am probably gonna wrap this up for now. I have done absolutely nothing today, aside from play Saints Row 2 on the XBOX 360, and play a bit with . She has a cold, poor little girl. She did 3 steps on several occasions today, and she sure does like to talk. Too bad she only knows a couple of words. I swear she’s getting close to saying “love da da” though… still haven’t got her to say ma ma yet. It will come, we keep working on it.

Rebecca just passed out (tired, not drunk!) next to me in bed. We had a pretty good night last night bringing in 2009 at The Melting Pot. Great meal and great company!

Hope you all have a blessed, safe and successful 2009. Happy New Year.

My First Christmas!

December 26, 2008 by

Boy did I get a good night sleep last night!  Finally, because I have been so tired having had so much to do for the past week.  I flew to Denver on the 19th with my mommy and daddy, and we rented a car and drove to Fort Collins and picked up my cousin Courtney who rode to Casper, Wyoming with us.  We got to grandma and grandpa’s house where we spent almost a whole week.  It was really fun, but there were so many people around that I didn’t sleep much because I didn’t want to miss out on a thing!

While in Casper, I got to spend time with a lot of my family that I never get to see, so it was so much fun!  I played at Great-Grandma Hotshot’s house with all of her Christmas toys.  They play music and I like to dance to it.  I also like crawling around her house and exploring all the really fun stuff.  I got stuck a few times!  Daddy is going to put some pictures up on his website, maybe on mine, too.  I loved seeing my great-grandma.  She loves me so much and I love her, too!

I also got to see my Great-Grandpa Carlen.  This funny guy just keeps kissing and loving on me.  He gave me so many kisses this past week that I won’t know what to do without them.  He is so lucky… he is going to spend a whole month in California.  I haven’t ever been to California, but my mommy and daddy said we’ll go there sometime and go to Disney Land and see our family out there.  I can’t wait!

I also got to see my Aunt Stephanie, Uncle Mikey and my cousins Stephen and Ashley.  They all love me, too!  It was really fun spending time with them and going over to their house to party like the rockstar I am!  When I grow up I hope I can dance as good as Ashley.  Ashley and Courtney both tell me how hot Zac Efron is.  He is cute, but I don’t like boys yet.  I also am going to learn karate like Stephen so I can keep all the boys away from me!

Of course I also got to spend a lot of time with my Grandma Vickie and Grandpa Steve.  Boy, I sure love them and wish I could see them a lot more.  I have been lucky to see them a lot this first year of my life, especially considering how far away they live from me.  They love me lots and it was sure fun seeing them in person instead of on the computer like we always do.

I can’t forget to mention that my oldest cousin Brandon “Big B” was there for some of the time and so was my cousin Keegan.  They were fun to hang out with, too!  I just wish that Big B, Nathan,  and my Aunt Wendy and Uncle Tony could have been in Casper for Christmas Eve with us.  It’s ok, though, because I got to go see them on Christmas Day in Fort Collins.  It was weird to see them all at the hospital because Big B had surgery on Christmas Eve morning.  His surgery went well!  He looked different with a bandage all over his head, but I got to see him after they took it off and he had cheeks just like me!  Big B loves me lots and kept holding my hand.  He is so special, I love him so much.  Nathan thinks I’m pretty cool, too.  He always likes to hold me when I see him.  I can’t believe how big he is now!  I will get to see him in May when he graduates from high school.  It was really fun seeing all of the Lechers, even if it was at the hospital.

Besides seeing everyone for Christmas, I had a lot of firsts while in Casper.  I went to church for the first time and I was such a good girl.  I really liked it and want mommy and daddy to take me to church more often.  I think God is pretty cool!  I also took two steps on several occasions.  Everyone clapped and told me how big I was — they are so weird!  And, I got lots of presents!  Aunt Stephanie cheated and gave me one of my presents a few days early.  It was a really neat play purse full of fun stuff.  I also got a coat and a bunch of clothes from my grandma and grandpa.  I got a really pretty (even if my daddy doesn’t think so) leopard print outfit from the Lovatos and Ashley.  The Lechers got me some really cute purple overalls and matching shirt.  Great Granpa Emmett gave me one of my great-grandma cookie’s collector beanie babies, and my great-grandma hotshot gave me money that mommy and daddy are putting into my savings account for me.  While all of the presents were neat, I really loved playing with the wrapping paper and bows!  I also loved dancing to all the music that was played.

On Christmas Day we flew back home where I got even more presents.  None topped seeing my Bubba again!  I really missed him but was happy to see him when we picked him up from his Daddy/SD’s house.  When we got home, I got to open more presents from Santa, Mommy, Daddy and Bubba!  I got a big kitchen to play with, a really neat musical stand with a computer just like daddy’s, an awesome Dave Matthews Band shirt and more!  It was a great first Christmas, that’s for sure.

This morning when I woke up after a long, really great sleep in my own bed, I got to see my Hoover (and the other dog) again!  I really missed them, too.

Well, I think I need to go take a nap.  I am exhausted just thinking about all of the wonderful time I got to spend with my family and all of the fun and pretty presents I got.  I can’t wait for Sunday because I get to have another Christmas with my Grandma and Grandpa Bradshaw, my uncle Chris, Aunt Sandy and my cousins Cayse and Wyatt.  I bet more people will be there, too.  And then, in just a couple of weeks I will get MORE presents because it will be my First Birthday!  Oh, the excitement.  I am tired.  Watch for pictures and probably even some Hoover videos coming soon!

Love,

Braelyn Grace

Well I think it’s time for me to take a nap.  I am so exhausted just thinking about all of the

A Little Rambling

December 7, 2008 by

It’s May…where has the time gone?  As I sit (correct use of the word) here at work, looking out my window the rain looks as though it is starting to move in.  It’s 5:00 and time to go home here in a bit.  Hopefully Ryan’s plane will not be delayed too long tonight.  He is coming home from an overnight trip, a board meeting in NY.  We had a video shoot at the house this morning.  A production crew was there filming an eCommercial for one of lendors.  It was fun being involved in that.
School will be out in about 3 weeks or so.  Spencer had his very last "early release" day of his life, or so he says.  Blue Valley has early release the 1st Tuesday of every month.  He begins high school next year and that will be the end of the early release days.  Spencer has his 8th Grade graduation on May 27th.  I don’t ever remember there being an 8th grade graduation when I was in P. Hill.  Although 8th grade was part of the high school.  Anywho, I am planning on watching my "baby" graduate from 8th grade and move onto some of the best years of his life…high school.
Miss Braelyn is growing up so fast.  She of course is rolling over, and thinks it is somewhat of a game when I put her down in her crib and she immediately rolls over and laughs.  Speaking of laughing, she was cooing and laughing all morning long.  It was fun having her at home with me this morning.
Work is okay.  I am not as busy as I was before I left for maternity leave, my manager (and friend) is leaving on Friday to pursue a new venture.  I’m not 100% happy where I am right now.  Part of me would love to find something else to do, part of me would love to hang out with Braelyn during the day.  Oh well, I know life here at the "Vu" will turn around soon.
I went out with Shelly on Friday night.  We went to see Colbie Calliet (I think I spelled it correctly).  We met at the PNL (Power & Light District), the new trendy hang out in KC.  Tons of bars and restaraunts close to the Sprint Center.  Then we headed to the Uptown Theatre for the concert.  Afterwards, we decided to stop at Denny’s at 12th and Broadway (we were definitely the minority there) for some late night food.  We didn’t eat earlier in the evening…didn’t want the food to make us bloated or our jeans too tight (WOMEN!!!).  So after some BNG, Bacon and Eggs I got into my car and headed home.  I had Rachael Anderson come over and watch Braelyn.  Rachael is a teacher at All Around Child.  I really liked her, and I think Braelyn did too.  I’m definitely going to have Rachael come back to babysit.
We have a couple of trips planned this year…another thing that I am day dreaming about.  Ryan and I are going to Chicago and St.Louis next month with Gabe and Stephanie to see DMB.  Then in October we are supposed to go back to Maui with Gabe and Stephanie.  I am so ready for that vacation.  Justine and her new hubby just returned from Kaui yesterday.  She said it was a blast and loved every minute of it…I’m jealous can’t wait!
Well I need to finish some things up here…till later!
One last thought…I wonder who will win NC and Indiana, Obama or "The HC"?  I don’t know if I really care…whoever it’ll be will get their butt kicked by JM in November!

GO MU!

November 30, 2008 by

It’s snowing outside.  Our first snow of the year, althoug it’s not sticking, not quite cold enough for that yet.  Ryan is at the Murphy’s taking pics of the kids for a Christmas card.  Braelyn is crawling on Hoover trying to get to the table in the living room…oh wait, he moved.  Braelyn has reached the table and is now opening the drawers. I am watching the MU – KU game.  GO MIZZOU!  MU just scored, are down 10-7 with 11 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.  I want MU to stomp KU again.  I realize that I live in Kansas, and just 40 minutes from Lawrence, but I grew up in Missouri – I’m loyal.

Ryan and I are going to dinner and a movie with Gabe and Stephanie tonight.  We are going to meet them for a movie, “Four Christmases” and then to Capital Grille for dinner.  I am craving some cocunut cream pie, but I won’t eat it.  Ryan don’t let me!

This will be another short week for work.  I leave on Thursday morning at 6 am for Naples, FL with Stephanie and four other friends for a girls weekend.  I can’t wait.  Four days setting at the pool and hanging out at the beach.  Can’t wait…I need the break.  My friend Holly is coming over on Thursday night to help Ryan with Braelyn and then Ryan will take Brae to mom and dad’s on Friday afternoon and will pick her up sometime on Sunday.  Spencer will be at his dad’s next weekend.  Ryan will have a nice quiet weekend at home with Hoover and Sophie.

MU just sacked KU’s quarterback.  Too bad he got up, not that I want him hurt too bad, just out for the game.  Braelyn is tearing up what was my Pottery Barn catalog.  I guess that is one way to keep me from buying something.

Spencer has spent the weekend with his dad. He’s been over there since Wednesday, I miss him.  I know Brae misses him too, she crawls around babbling Bub, Bub, Bub.  Ryan misses his Guitar Hero partner too.

Miss Brae is tired, I think its time for a nap and she’s eating paper…nice!

Enjoy the rest of the long weekend!

R.
